Carbon dating, also known as radiocarbon dating, is a scientific method used to determine the age of organic materials. It is based on the principle that carbon-14, an isotope of carbon, is continuously formed in the atmosphere by cosmic rays. When an organism dies, it no longer takes in carbon-14, and the existing carbon-14 in its remains undergoes radioactive decay.
