Narasimha Deva I, also known as Langula Narasingha Deva I in history was one of the greatest monarchs from ancient Kalinga, equivalent to the modern Indian state of Odisha. He was named after one of the avatars of Lord Vishnu, one of the Trinities of Hinduism, who had to take a violent form in order to save an innocent life. Same as his divine namesake, King Narasimha took aggressive campaigns to uphold the rich culture of his native place. Narasimha was born to another great monarch from Kalinga ? Anangabhima Deva III, who was not only a great warrior himself, but also a very religious person who contributed to the building of several important temples. Anangabhima Deva?s life was spent in several campaigns, which saw his kingdom stretching to parts of South India.
