Rulings on the Two Festive Salats(Al fitr and al Adha) It is a Fardhu kifa’yah (a collective obligation); when enough people observe it, those not observing it are relieved of sin- even though the order given to attend the Salat is very emphatic. The Prophet ﷺ had ordered that it be observed, and indeed ordered that women, young or old, attend, such that menstruating women, even though they will not observe Salat, are mandated to attend. All these are as a result of the virtues of the Salat and due to the emphasis placed on it. The proofs for its obligation are as follows: 1- Allah’s statement: “Therefore, turn in Salat to your Lord and sacrifice (to Him only).†(Al-Kawthar: 2)

Wisdom behind the Eclipses of the Sun and the Moon Both of them are two signs, among the numerous signs of Allah, which He uses to remind His servants, so that they can return to Him in repentance. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Indeed the sun and the moon are not made to eclipse because of the death of anyone nor his life (birth), but they are two signs from the numerous signs of Allah that He uses to frighten and remind His servants. Thus when they eclipse, then hurry to (perform) Salat.†[ Source: Abu Dawud.]

The Traveler’s Prayer It is authorized for the traveler to shorten the four- rak’ah Salat (i.e. Dhur, ‘Asr and Isha’) to two- rakat. Also (permissible for him) is the joining of Dhuhr together with Asr, and Maghrib together with Isha’. This is because Allah the Most High says: “And when you (Muslims) travel in the land, there is no sin on you if you shorten your As-Salat if you fear that the disbelievers may attack you, for verily the disbelievers are forever, unto you, open enemies.†(An-Nisa:101).
