Kenyan schoolgirl jailed for sparking school dormitory fire that killed 10 students

A Kenyan schoolgirl has been jailed five years over a school dormitory fire that resulted in the deaths of 10 fellow students in Kenya?s capital, Nairobi. The fire incident occurred at the prestigious Moi Girls School in 2017. At the time she committed the offence in 2017, the jailed girl was only 14 years old. She is now aged 18 and parents of the students who died in the fire incident noted that her sentence was lenient. Local media report however that parents of those who died were happy that justice had been served.

A court in Kano, Northern Nigeria, on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, sentenced Mubarak Bala to 24 years in jail. Bala is the President of Humanist Association of Nigeria, an organisation committed to promoting freedom of belief around the world.
