Reasons To Be Grateful: Let Me Count the Ways

Becomingthejourney01 Oct, 2024Business

Reasons to be grateful: let me count the ways indeed! I am a dual citizen, and one of the benefits (and there are soooo many?ay, there is a good reason to be grateful right there), is that I have the loverly experience of celebrating Thanksgiving twice every fall! In honor of the US Thanksgiving late in November, I wanted to just pluck a few of the infinite, yes, infinite ways and reasons I am overflowingly grateful. And by doing this, I encourage you to count your ways and reasons. There is really no season for gratitude, of course. But Thanksgiving gives us a little nudge.

Saying Yes Is Simple Not Easy

Becomingthejourney12 Aug, 2024News

Saying yes is simple ? not easy. I know this from personal experience! How many times and ways have I heard similar messages: Don?t resist, what we resist persists, acceptance frees our energy, saying no blocks it.. again and again. Saying Yes to the Universe Saying Yes to the Universe (now there?s the full meal deal, eh?), is the title of one of the recent Daily Om mailings. It resonates deeply with me. Have I gotten it? Not totally, but I am happy to report there is significant progress.

Happiness Is An Inside Job

Becomingthejourney10 Aug, 2024Other

Happiness is an inside job. Really? Here?s my backstory. When my grandkids turned six, I gave each of them what we called at ?Tree Book? ? a little book actually made of wood, which seemed appropriate because the idea was to have a place to record sayings and experiences that would help us grow, like tress do. It would contain tips, tidbits, and teachings that could help us when times were tough; help us to bounce back, to handle life?s challenges. My mom had given me a little booklet like that too, and while I confess that I didn?t look at it very often, I did register the idea that many of our strengths and resources are on the inside. My intent was to share that radical idea with my grandkids They?re not at a point yet where that really means much ? they are currently quite focussed on living their lives as teenagers or 20 somethings.

Acceptance Changes Everything

Becomingthejourney06 Aug, 2024Business

Acceptance changes everything! Try it, you?ll like it ? Travelling with my family in Portugal this summer was a rich and splendid experience? with, of course as it is to be expected, a few AFGOs*. One early in the trip had to do with the cramped space in our Lisbon lodging. I could notice my familiar tendency to wish it were different? Couldn?t there be more space, air, light? There was also the option to look for silver linings, and there were many that could have been called upon ? the wonderful old town setting, the delicious wine and Portuguese specialties our host had left for us in the room......

Do a Little Bit of Good

Becomingthejourney05 Aug, 2024Other

Do a little Bit of Good. When I recently came across this inspirational quote from Desmond Tutu about doing good, I found it very fitting, even inspiring, for our current times. Tutu said, ?Do your little bit of good where you are; it is those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.? One could even say, doing a little bit of good where we are is a way of overcoming challenges, right here, right now. The wheel of the year keeps turning, bringing with it all manner of startling events. August 1st, one of the Cross Quarter days, called Lughnasadh in the Celtic calendar is just around the corner. Also called Lammas, the 1st of August is considered the beginning of the grain harvest season, and traditionally noted with various festivals, games, feasts, celebrating the abundance, the colours, the grains, the fruits, the blooming, the ease of plucking and enjoying earth?s bounty?Oh My!

I Wouldnt Have Seen It If I Hadnt Believed It

Becomingthejourney27 Jul, 2024Other

?I wouldn?t have seen it if I hadn?t believed it.? This quote by Marshall McLuhan struck me, it?s a powerful turnabout from the usual familiar hack that ?seeing is believing?. It offers an exciting link to the new information from the fields of quantum physics, from some spiritual teachings, from the mind-body connection work that has made such a difference in my life. Here?s a provocative commentary on the quote. Thank our higher powers for the many exciting developments in our worlds these days! Jean Houston offers a course on quantum keys to living, where she takes participants into the new realms of our consciousness, invites us to explore the interplay between our familiar personal existence and the world of quantum possibilities. She states: ?As viewed, so appears.? As we perceive and open to the new and multitude possibilities, so things will manifest.

My Dance With Pain: Exciting Updates

Becomingthejourney26 Jul, 2024News

Twenty years ago I wrote a post called My Dance with Pain, about the significant discomfort that I had in my body: where it was, how it felt, how it migrated, what I understood at the time, what I learned? Now I am thrilled to share exciting new information that has radically changed my experience of pain. As I write this post, relieved of that pain (!), what has recently been misunderstood, ignored, repressed, and stigmatized, now seems to be breaking into the mainstream. Pain is not what we have been told it is I highly recommend you read or listen to this episode of The Ezra Klein Show. ?The pain psychologist Rachel Zoffness explains how pain is a ?biopsychosocial phenomenon? ? and how we can better treat it.? Rachel has a new publication out called The Pain Management Workbook, and it?s well worth a look. These insights and tools can be life changing for anyone dealing with ongoing manifestations of pain.

Acceptance, Enjoyment, Enthusiasm: A Trio to Try

Becomingthejourney25 Jul, 2024Business

Acceptance, enjoyment, enthusiasm: a trio to try. I like the flow of these words, the optimistic effect of reading and feeling the words on my soul, in mind, and body. I feel pleasantly light, noticing a bubbly energy, and my heart is open. Here?s a bit of back story to this post. Mike and I just completed a course about wisdom for living and dying., a program put on by a Buddhist group, IMS, the Insight Meditation Society ? a wonderful group with rich offerings, not just for Buddhists. Acceptance is one of the qualities that inevitably enriches our living and dying. Even knowing this, acceptance has been really challenging for me (check out this recent post, Acceptance Changes Everything). But as I grow older and a bit wiser, I do find acceptance more accessible, even when life is difficult.
