They are superior to duplex fasteners and regular fasteners. Super duplex steel fasteners are better in terms of corrosion resistance and mechanical strength. Super duplex steel is the default substance used in applications in seawater and chemical processing industries where there is exposure to certain acids. Corrosion resistance of super duplex steel fasteners is measured in terms of PREN, which is minimum 40 for super duplex grades and the alloy typically has 25% Chromium or higher. Super duplex was developed much later to meet the requirements of various industries. The strength of super duplex steel is nearly twice of that of austenitic stainless steel.
