The most widely read and acclaimed is "Nilasaila" which is contextualized in a crucial period of Orissa's history. The events of the novel take place between the years 1727 and 1736 when Ramachandradev, the king of Khurda who is revered by the people of Orissa as the representative of Jagannath, the presiding deity of the Oriya race, converts himself into Islam and marries the daughter of the Muslim ruler of Cuttack. While Nilasaila ends with the idol of Lord Jagannath being shifted from its original place, the ratna singhasana of Puri temple, to an island in the Chilika Lake, "Niladri Bijaya" narrates the triumphant return of the idol to its original abode. Though Ramachandradev is formally a Muslim, he is eager to restore the deity to the original place and he succeeds despite the fear of being attacked by the Muslim forces.

Baji Rout was the youngest Indian freedom fighter and martyr, having been killed at the age of twelve. He was born on 5 October 1926. Rout, who was a boat boy, was shot by British police when he refused to ferry them across the Brahmani River on the night of 11 October 1938 at Nilakanthapur Ghat, Bhuban, Dhenkanal district.He was born on 5 October 1926 as the youngest son of Hari Rout and Rania Devi in the village Nilakanthapur in the then state of Dhenkanal. He lost his father in his childhood. Her mother who was earning a living by grinding and husking paddy at a quern in the neighborhood was unable to spend anything on his education. He had two elder brothers who also earned very little to support the family.
Godabarish Mohapatra was a story writer and poet in Odia literature.He was also a journalist of Odisha, best known as the editor of 'Niankhunta', a monthly criticism magazine, and 'Tuan Tuin', a monthly children's magazine.He was born on 1 October 1898 at Kumarang near Banapur in Odisha. He completed his schooling in 1921 at the famous Satyabadi Bana Bidyalaya under Godabarish Mohapatra 's supervision and later his higher education at Ravenshaw University, Cuttack. In 1930 Pandit Godabarish Mohapatra established a high school at Banapur. Mohapatra was the first secretary of the managing committee as well as a teacher at the beginning of the school.
