Suicide rates are alarmingly high, with young adults and women most affected. The pandemic has worsened the situation, leading to increased prevalence of depression and anxiety, especially among younger age groups. Social media is exacerbating stress and mental ill health, further eroding self-esteem. Mental ill-health has wider socio-economic implications, perpetuating a vicious cycle of disadvantage and poverty. A well-resourced ?whole-of-society? approach is urgently required, based on four pillars, to tackle this growing crisis. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reports that human activities have contributed to the warming of the planet since 1950. Health is strongly connected to the changing environment. To avoid an impending catastrophe, the world?s temperature must not rise above 1.5?C. Every additional tenth of a degree adds massively to warming the planet and tolls on people?s lives and health.
