In the current age, most people have experienced, either directly or second-hand, the effects of neuropsychiatric diseases, including addiction, Alzheimer's Disease or other dementias, Parkinson's disease, bipolar disorder, and depression. Therefore, identifying and improving treatments for these debilitating illnesses is essential. LifeInSight BioTherapeutics is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was established to fund collaborative research designed to optimize treatments for mental illness and substance use disorders. In 2016, a team of elite scientists from some of the most prestigious medical universities in the country formed an alliance to develop such treatments. These scientists hail from several outstanding universities including: o Baylor College of Medicine o University of Houston o University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center o University of Texas Medical Branch o Vanderbilt School of Medicine o Virginia Commonwealth University o University of Washington o Yale University School of Medicine
The World Health Organization defines mental health as “the state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community. Therefore, mental health is the foundation for well-being and effective functioning not only for an individual, but also for an entire community. Unfortunately, viable solutions for mental health disorders are lacking. The hope of this organization is that within our lifetime, collaborative research will promote the development of effective treatments for mental healthcare by addressing the following areas of research and treatment:

Thus, in that year, about 1 in 5 adults in the United States experienced the impact of mental illness, while about 1 in 22, or roughly 11 million, American adults lived with a serious mental health condition. Furthermore, 8.5 million people suffered from co-occurring mental health conditions and addiction disorders. Undoubtedly, the effects of mental illness are widespread. Such conditions also have devastating consequences, as suicide is increasing in incidence and is currently the 10th leading cause of death. Over 90% of childhood suicides are linked to mental illness. Veterans also have a suicide rate that is twice as high as that of those who do not serve in the military, and 18 to 22 veterans die each day by suicide.
