Tuesday Tales: What stories are you making up?

Donnathistlethwaite30 Nov, 2021Other

Have you ever considered how amazing you are at making up stories? Take a moment to reflect on any stories you may have conjured up today. Maybe it was attributing a meaning to an unreturned call, interpreting a look on someone?s face or perhaps assuming someone?s intentions. Our brains are meaning making machines but the problem is that sometimes the meanings aren?t reflective of the experience of others involved in the situation.

Tuesday Tales: Do You Love Your Life?

Donnathistlethwaite24 Nov, 2021Other

Do you ever feel like you?re surrounded by people who aren?t loving life? Or perhaps you?re feeling a bit that way yourself right now ? wondering ?Is this all there is?? One recent morning I felt an urge to solo cycle into the city rather than do my usual group ride which starts at a particular time and travels at a certain speed irrespective of how I?m feeling. I?d come down with a cold, which often happens when I try to do too much.

Tuesday Tales: Changing relationship with alcohol

Donnathistlethwaite15 Nov, 2021Other

Do you ever find yourself drinking more than you planned? Waking up the next morning wondering what you said or not being able to account for a period of time? If so, you?re not alone. Alcohol and I go way back and at times our relationship hasn?t been particularly positive.

Tuesday Tales: My body talks to me, does yours?

Donnathistlethwaite08 Nov, 2021Health

I can?t even remember when I first heard the expression ?mind-body connection?. Possibly decades ago. It seemed plausible to me that there could be a relationship between my thoughts and emotions and my physiology. But it really wasn?t something that I spent time contemplating or had noticed any evidence of in my own life.

Tuesday Tales: How do you respond to challenges?

Donnathistlethwaite03 Nov, 2021Other

Do you find that a challenge motivates you to rise to the occasion or do you often wish you could pull the blankets over your head and go back to sleep in the hope that it?ll go away? It probably depends on your level of interest but often our mindset can play a large role.

Tuesday Tales: Are you worth the investment?

Donnathistlethwaite25 Oct, 2021Other

Have you ever worked with a therapist or a practitioner for support? Is this something you regularly do or has the idea never occurred to you? Recently, I was speaking to a friend in Victoria who has found herself struggling due to the ongoing and extended lockdowns in the state. She?s sometimes feeling overwhelmed, is tired of sitting in the same chair in her office and desperately misses her in-person catch-ups.

Tuesday Tales: Want to know how to raise your mood?

Donnathistlethwaite18 Oct, 2021Other

Recently I drove to Toowoomba for a podcast interview for the Unleash the Beast podcast, an amazing initiative by Lifeline Darling Downs. I was thrilled to have lunch afterwards with the interviewer and the event organiser. It was an absolutely wonderful day but it turns out quite tiring. When I returned home I noticed I was a bit snappy with my family and really wasn?t enjoying that game of catch with my son.

Tuesday Tales: Have you been triggered lately?

Donnathistlethwaite12 Oct, 2021Other

Do you ever sense yourself being triggered by a life situation? Basically, it?s an emotional or physiological response to a situation or both. Sometimes we?ll recognise it but often we won?t be conscious of what is happening or why. A few years back I employed a school based administrative trainee to work one day a week in my business. I was excited about getting some help, having someone to talk to and facilitating some new skills for a young person.

Tuesday Tale: Do you know how to accept help?

Donnathistlethwaite06 Oct, 2021Other

Recently I had a phone chat with a friend whose husband is currently undergoing cancer treatment. They are in their 70s. This is a family who unfortunately is not new to dealing with cancer. Every member of their family of four has experienced cancer and they tragically lost their daughter to the illness just a short time before her 40th birthday a few years back. They are an incredibly strong and resilient family.

Tuesday Tales: What bewildered Donnas science teacher?

Donnathistlethwaite24 Sep, 2021Other

In the early 1980s, I had a casual job at McDonald?s. One night I was rostered on the front counter. It was quiet as the dinner time rush hadn?t kicked in yet. I slipped out to the dining room to relieve my boredom. My 16 year old self had just eased into a friendly chat with a couple of guys when my attention was caught by a man entering the restaurant brandishing a rifle.
