Get ready to pay more for breeding of mosquitoes in New Delhi Municipal Council areas in the national Capital. The NDMC on Wednesday hiked the penalty fee by 900 per cent for breeding mosquitoes as 1429 dengue cases have been reported in the national Capital so far. The penalty amount of Rs 500 hundred was increased to Rs 5000, while the penalty of Rs 20 hiked to Rs 200. The decision to hike in penalty was taken at the NDMC meeting on Wednesday.

Nearly 130 people have been being diagnosed with dengue in the last few days, taking the tally of the vector-borne disease in the city to over 500 so far this year, according to a report. The spurt in dengue cases comes in the wake of heavy rains in the capital over the past few days. According to the report released by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Monday, 281 cases have been reported this month alone till September 21.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is all set to be the next Congress president. Gehlot on Wednesday arrived in Delhi and called on Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi. He is believed to have discussed the organisational poll and expressed his willingness to contest the polls if Rahul Gandhi does not agree to accept the responsibility. Gehlot is likely to join the Rahul-led Bharat Jodo Yatra on Thursday and then visit Shirdi Sai Baba Temple the next day before returning to Jaipur and the National Capital.

The ruling AAP in Punjab on Tuesday accused the BJP of offering Rs 20-25 crore each to its MLAs in an attempt to topple the Bhagwant Mann government in the state. The Punjab BJP dubbed the allegations as "baseless" and "bundle of lies" and said AAP is trying to divert attention of people from its "failures". The CBI on Monday refuted Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia's charge its deputy legal advisor killed himself under pressure to "frame" him in the excise "scam" case, and said the officer was in "no way connected" with the probe. In a statement, the CBI also said no clean chit has been given to any of the accused in the excise police case. The CBI refuted Sisodia's claims on the death of its officer Jitendra Kumar as "mischievous and misleading", saying his statements were "an attempt to divert attention from the ongoing investigation in Delhi Excise Policy case".

The defence ministry on Tuesday terminated the services of three officials of the Indian Air Force after a high-level probe held them responsible for the March 9 accidental firing of a Brahmos missile that landed in Pakistan. The Court of Inquiry (CoA) into the incident found that deviation from the SOP by three officers led to the accidental firing of the missile.
