X-linked Retinoschisis/X-Linked Juvenile Retinoschisis is a rare congenital malformation of the retina caused by mutations in the RS1 gene. It is the leading cause of juvenile macular degeneration-characterized by symmetric bilateral macular involvement. It is an inherited retinal disease that occurs primarily in males.
