A multifactorial trait is a characteristic or illness that is influenced by both hereditary and environmental factors. Unlike qualities that follow Mendelian inheritance patterns, multifactorial traits result from the interaction of several genes (polygenic traits) and non-genetic factors such as environmental exposures and lifestyle decisions. Populations differ widely in these attributes due to the complex interactions among these constituents.
