In India, an incense stick is called a Dhoop Batti or an Agarbatti or often even a Dhoop stick, the most likely object in any Indian household. Even the number of shops in a small town selling these is baffling for someone not aware of Indian religious practices. No matter where you go in India, you?re likely to find the Agarbatti in an Incense Sticks holder spreading an assortment of fragrances and creating an ambiance so wonderful and tranquil. Places of worship, Temples, Pagodas, Meditation rooms, individual residence, and business premises, name it and you?re likely to find the use of the ever-present Agarbatti. For most Indians though, the habit of using an incense stick is based on recurring cultural practices they have been subjected to since their childhood.
