Purnima, held in the Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month, is apprehended as Sharad Purnima. It is even called Raas Purnima in Brijbhoomi. According to myth, Lord Krishna along with the Gopi's conducted a dance of holy devotion or Maha-Raas on Sharad Purnima. As per Vedic Astrology, Sharad Purnima is the only day in the whole year when the Moon is maximum of its 16 integrity, and the rays coming out from the moon are considered comparable to Amrita. Hindu believers honor Mata Lakshmi and Moon God on Sharad Purnima. They prepare sweetened rice pudding and keep it in the moonlight on the evening of Ashwin Purnima. It is assumed that the rays of the moon on Sharad Purnima hold unique qualities of recovery.
