Equine plays a variety of important roles in human society, including those related to diet, transportation, work, sport, recreation, property, military service, and religion. Compared to other domesticated species, equine is less reproductively efficient. Therefore, the primary objectives of most equine breeding programs are to maximize reproductive efficiency and minimize the cost of producing live foals. Advances in molecular genetic techniques and bioinformatics have made it possible to apply conventional genomic evaluation and selection to equine breeding improvement. Applying modern genetic breeding and assisted reproductive techniques enables great improvement in the efficiency of equine breeding and reproduction.
