Proteinase K is a non-redundant serine protease with a broad scope in molecular biology. Finally, the enzyme has been found in antigens of the fungus E. coli. Because this enzyme may breakdown hair, it is known as "proteinase K." It has recently been shown that this very flexible enzyme has numerous applications in living creatures, including photoautomata creation, oxygen removal from water, cell growth and development, DNA damage and repair, hormone generation, fatty acid metabolism, and amino acid modification. Furthermore, this enzyme aids in protein synthesis as well as enzyme and free radical activity.
