Stainless steels are often referred to as high-alloy steels. They have higher corrosion resistance than most steels due to the presence of significant concentrations of chromium in the range of 4 to 30%. Stainless steels are graded as martensitic, ferritic, or austenitic depending on their crystalline structure. Precipitation-hardened steels, on the other hand, are martensitic and austenitic stainless steels.
