Pragati Started in 1937 with Pyarishankar Ray as the editor and Bhagabati Charan Panigrahi taking over the editorship after six months. The magazine aimed to foster progressive ideas in the country. It also set a role for itself to be the mouthpiece for the groups opposed to colonialism and reactionary activities.
