Headaches are often thought to be a strictly visual issue and often are. But headaches can also be caused by physiological factors such as inadequate oxygen supply, neck, or shoulder pain, tension or muscle stress, a weak or inflamed immune system, or an abnormal or unhealthy heart rhythm. The treatment of these conditions may well relieve the headache but is unlikely to cure it. Because the causes of headaches are so widely believed to be psychosomatic rather than physical, there has been little effort made to develop a rigorous medical therapy against them. There are, however, a small number of established migraine and headache cures, which vary from drug treatment to sophisticated manual techniques, but all show minimal success rates.
