Did you know that the evergreen nutmeg tree (Myristica fragrans) is native to the Banda Islands in Indonesia and is the source of two popular spices, nutmeg and mace? Indeed, the nutmeg tree produces fruits that, once ripe, reveal an aril known as mace, and inside this aril is a nut we call nutmeg. Ground nutmeg has a distinctively spicy fragrance and a slightly sweet taste. It is frequently used to flavour dishes like baked goods, confections, potatoes, meats, sausages, sauces, and vegetables, and is a hallmark of eggnog.
