NFPA 1001 specifies the essentials of knowledge, skills, and abilities required for safe and effective fire service operations in the minimum qualifications for firefighters. Under specified headings, it outlines two levels of firefighter certification, Firefighter I, his basic firefighting skills, and Firefighter II, advanced fire suppression, rescue techniques, and leadership responsibilities. Providing firefighters with the necessary training in fire behaviour, emergency medical care, hazardous materials and safety procedures, will increase their chances of saving lives, properties and communities.
