Sitakant Mahapatra, born on September 17, 1937, is an acclaimed Oriya poet and critic who is at his best while portraying the ethos of Orissan tradition. His is one of the best-known names in Indian Literature today. The people of Orissa appear in his poetry as a compassionate, simple, and innocent community. Mahapatra's scholarly contributions on the 'Little Traditions of' tribal societies testify to his range of interests and erudition. Sitakant Mahapatra is an Indian poet and literary critic in Odia as well as English. He served in the Indian Administrative Service from 1961 until he retired in 1995, and has held ex officio posts such as the Chairman of National Book Trust, New Delhi since then.
