Also famous by the name �Sweet Root�, Licorice root is commonly used as a sweetener in beverages and candies. Many people have used it for centuries due to its believed medicinal perks. The term �licorice� is taken from the roots of a plant, Glycyrrhiza glabra. This pant is native to Asia and Europe while the early Egyptian used it as a cure and in teas as well. Later, licorice was imported to China and there it became of the essential herbs used in Chinese medicines.
