Lemongrass goes by different names depending on the country of origin; these include cymbopogon, barbed wire grass, silky heads, Cochin grass, Malabar grass, oily heads, citronella grass, and fever grass. Regardless of the origin, lemongrass is a genus of Asian, African, Australian, and tropical island plants belonging to the grass (Poaceae) family; it is a genus of about 55 species of grasses. Lemongrass can be used in culinary or medicinal applications, as well as in perfumery.
