Industry Classification by Pollution Control Board

Updates11 Mar, 2024Environment

In Indian states, industries have been classified according to their potential for pollution and hazards. Such classification is done to safeguard environmentally delicate areas or places of particular significance. This has introduced the idea of classifying industries into "Red," "Orange," and "Green" for the first time and limiting their activity in specific crucial regions. These classifications are crucial since they determine the NOC's time limit and the fees that must be paid during registration. An industry is exempt from applying for a CTE or CTO at the pollution control board if it is classified as a White category. These industries are thought to be non-polluting, and all that would be required to obtain their NOC would be a straightforward notification from the company to the State Pollution Board.
