Uric acid is a metabolic waste product found in the blood, resulting from the breakdown of purines, which are naturally occurring substances in the body and certain foods. The condition of having high levels of uric acid is known as hyperuricaemia. This test also helps evaluate potential kidney disease or dysfunction. Furthermore, it is used to monitor for elevated uric acid as a side effect of certain medications.
