Great Nicobar Island Project

A committee has been established by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to evaluate the environmental clearance given by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change for the Great Nicobar Island project, which is valued at ?72,000 crore and encompasses an international container transshipment terminal, a greenfield international airport, township development, and a 450 MVA gas and solar based power plant on a 16,610-hectare area in the southern region of the Andaman and Nicobar islands. The NGT has also put a stop to the project.
