The Botanical Garden in Puducherry, located near Orleanpet along Maraimalai Adigal Salai, offers a refreshing green escape in the heart of the city. Established by the French in 1826, the garden was designed to study and cultivate a variety of plant species suitable for the region’s climate. Over the years, botanists introduced exotic plants, shaping it into a formal botanical institution. Today, the garden spans approximately 22 acres and houses over 1,500 species of plants, both indigenous and exotic.
