Bharathi Park, located in the heart of the French‑era quarter of Puducherry (White Town), is a peaceful urban oasis offering a serene break from the city’s hustle and bustle. Often referred to historically as the Government Park, it is surrounded by prominent buildings, including the Lieutenant Governor’s residence, the Legislative Assembly, and historic hospital blocks. At the center of the park stands the elegant white monument called the Aayi Mandapam, which commemorates a 19th‑century courtesan named Aayi, who is said to have sacrificed her own house to build a reservoir for the city during French rule.
