Hot stamping or foil stamping is done with pre-dried ink or foils transferred to another surface at high temperatures. Hot stamping is one of the most important modes of decoration on plastic products since the latter half of the 1970s. In the 19th century, hot tamping was a popular technique of applying gold tooling or embossing in book printing on leather and paper. Ernst Oeser recorded the first patent for hot stomping in 1892.
