Why won�t my AC turn off?

We all appreciate our air conditioners, especially during the hot summer months when we cannot get enough of the cool air that comes out of well-performing ac units. When the unit works well it is easy to even forget that you have left it on. But what happens when you need to turn it off and it just doesn?t? What happens when the unit that you have taken for granted for so long stops working or needs a repair?
