Effluents refers to the wastewater that a wastewater treatment system receives from sewage systems, with effluents then being free into the wider environment following the treatment process. This primarily refers to human waste from sewage systems, however, effluents include industrial effluent such as wastewater produced by factories and coolant water from facilities such as power stations. If there is waste liquid in a sewage system, this qualifies in the broader category of effluents.
