Why do most Indians still prefer to invest in fixed deposits?

In a survey by SEBI, the results showed that a majority of Indians prefer to invest in fixed deposits since there is no risk of the market associated with these investments. About five percent or a larger portion of the population is looking into different investment options. There are myriad of reasons the majority of people choose to invest in fixed deposits in the United States. Due to the recent rises in repo rates fixed rates on deposits are growing to the extent that previously dropped to 5.5 percent on average. This is likely to further boost investments in fixed deposits in India
