There is one condition that is as devastating to a horse as founder is also called laminitis. It is an uncomfortable and complicated disorder whose laminae sensitive layers inside the hoof are affected, which seem to attach the coffin bone to the hoof wall. In case these laminae get inflamed and damaged, the attachment is weakened; this can cause the coffin bones to spin or sink in the hoof capsule.
