What Is Unilateral Gynecomastia?

Ajitesh Verma18 Jul, 2020Health

Gynecomastia is a condition wherein the male chest looks swollen and female-like due to the enlargement of glandular tissue. The symptoms of gynecomastia may differ in various individuals. Swelling in the chest is not necessarily even, and there are several cases where one side of the chest (including the nipple and surrounding area) becomes noticeably larger than the other. This particular condition is referred to as unilateral gynecomastia. This condition is also referred to as ‘asymmetrical gynecomastia’ or ‘one-sided gynecomastia’. Gynecomastia is a cause of concern not only because it affects the appearance of the chest but it may also indicate cancer. As Dr. Dushyanth Kalva, a gynecomastia doctor in Hyderabad, says - it is also important to remember that a lot of factors can trigger hormonal imbalance that results in swollen male chest, and pinpointing the exact cause of the problem can be difficult at times.
