Sadqa-e-Fitr is a mandatory charity given by Muslims at the end of Ramadan before the Eid-ul-Fitr prayer. Its purpose is to purify one's fasts from any shortcomings and to help the needy participate in Eid celebrations. The amount is usually equivalent to about 2.5 kg of staple food (like wheat, barley, dates, or raisins) or its monetary value. It is obligatory for every Muslim who can afford it, including dependents. Sadqa-e-Fitr should be given before the Eid prayer to ensure the poor can also enjoy the festivities.
