So what is sable? Sables are small carnivorous mammals that can be found throughout eastern Asia and Europe. Unlike the American marten, which is hunted for its fur, this species is treasured because it is a threatened species, Sable is the common name for Martes zibellina and is one of two species in the genus Martes. It is a member of the mustelid family (commonly referred to as the weasel family), and is in the subfamily Mellivorinae ("honey badgers").
