Router connects two or more networks or subnetworks together. Routers are used to transfer data packets between networks. The router works on Layer 3 of the OSI model, ie the Network layer. It transmits (passes) data from one network to another.For example, if an office or a company wants to connect its local area network with another office so that both the offices can share the data among themselves, then it uses the router.
