Pretend play is also known as imaginative play, and is a skill that most children develop naturally by around 11 to 18 months of age. This is where a child pretends that there is more happening than what?s physically present. For example, they might feed a doll by putting a spoon to its mouth, even though the doll is not alive and the spoon is empty. They might also pretend to be someone else, and they usually begin with imitating other role-models in their lives, such as parents, teacher, doctor, or even their favorite cartoon characters.
