What is Network Attached Storage (NAS), and what characteristics and roles does it encompass?

Kiara0926 Oct, 2023Technology

Network Attached Storage (NAS) is a self-contained apparatus or storage server, delivering file-level data storage and sharing amenities to other network-connected devices. It is outfitted with one or more hard drives, which can be arranged into a RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) configuration for heightened data redundancy and security. NAS devices are linked to a network and can be reached by authorized users through a TCP/IP-based network protocol, such as NFS (Network File System) or SMB (Server Message Block).
