What is Atomic Radius of Helium ?

Vibhor27 Jul, 2022Education

The atomic radius of a chemical element is a measure of the distance out to which the electron cloud extends from the nucleus. However, this assumes the atom to exhibit a spherical shape, which is only obeyed for atoms in vacuum or free space .Atomic radius decreases from left to right in a period of the periodic table. The reason is as we move from left to right the number of inner shell electrons increases and the nucleus attracts electrons more strongly and thus it?s effective nuclear charge increases which results in the decrease of atomic radius
