Where a simple trademark search shall entail a search for any identical marks in the same class of goods and services, a Trademark Clearance Search is a more comprehensive form of undertaking wherein the scope is enlarged and search is made for marks which are not only identical but also marks which might be considered deceptively similar to the mark in question. As the name suggests, the objective is to ensure that there is absolute ?clearance? before a particular trademark is submitted for registration. Such a search would be made using several keywords, combinations including aurally similar ones to alleviate the possibility of deceptively similar marks.
