What Are Illuminati and Why People Still Believe It?

The Illuminati were a secret society that existed in Bavaria from 1776 to 1785. (now part of modern-day Germany). Its members were initially referred to as Perfectibilists. The group was founded in the spirit of the Enlightenment by Adam Weishaupt, a canon law professor. He wished to promote reason and philanthropy while criticizing superstition and religious influence in society. Weishaupt's goal was to change the way European states were run by removing religion's influence from government and providing people with a new source of 'illumination.'
