There are a myriad of water treatment systems. Reverse osmosis is the earliest method to remove dissolved solids from water. It is able to reduce TDS levels by as much as 99.7%. To utilize this technology water must be pumped through an ultra-high-pressure pipe. The pressure causes water to flow from higher levels to lower concentrations. A partially porous membrane is employed to allow only high-molecular matter (and dissolving solids) to pass through the process. RO permeate is the resultant liquid. It is safe for human consumption.
