A uric acid test determines the quantity of uric acid present in your urine or blood sample. Uric acid is basically a waste product that is produced when our body breaks down purines. Generally, the uric acid is dissolved in the blood and reaches the kidney, from where it is excreted. When your body starts making a lot of uric acid, it can make crystals in your joints. This is a condition similar to arthritis and is known as gout. It causes painful inflammation around the joints.
