Madras University is the mother of practically all of South India's historic universities. In recent years, the University's jurisdiction has been limited to three districts in Tamil Nadu. This is due to the establishment of several universities throughout the state, as well as the delineation of university boundaries. This university has been expanding its teaching and research operations while developing from strength to strength.
