Understanding Conjunctivitis: More Than Just Pink Eye

Conjunctivitis, also known as pink eye, is a common, potentially severe condition that involves eye inflammation, with diverse symptoms and treatments based on its type. One of the most noticeable symptoms of conjunctivitis is a pink or red color in the eye, hence the term 'pink eye.' This occurs due to the inflammation of the blood vessels in the conjunctiva, which become more visible. Other common symptoms include increased tear production, itching or burning sensation in the eyes, blurred vision, increased sensitivity to light, and a discharge that can form a crust during sleep, making it difficult to open the eyes in the morning.
