Tourmaline gemstone is a type of silicate and grows in a trigonal gem system, producing chromatic shapes with ends of various aspects. These gems are often vertically ridged (or striated). Quartz can often be detected with compositions of tourmaline set into their structure ? showing as opaque, black flecks.
