World Champion PV Sindhu made a winning start to her Olympics campaign as she registered a comfortable win over Israel?s Ksenia Polikarpova in the women?s singles. Sindhu defeated the 58th ranked Polikarpova 21-7 21-10 in the opening match. Sindhu was briefly lagging in the first set but made a strong comeback and grabbed 13 points straight to take the first game 21-7. She also gave cross-court smashes, leaving Polikarpova in the backseat and missed some crucial shots. In the second game, injured Polikarpova tried her best to compete with the power of Sindhu, but the latter quickly took the 9-3 lead in the game and then entered the mid-interval with a massive seven-point advantage.
